Seroprevalence and Risk Factors for Human Herpesvirus 8 Infection, Rural Egypt1
To determine whether human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) is associated with schistosomal and hepatitis C virus infections in Egypt, we surveyed 965 rural household participants who had been tested for HHV-8 and schistosomal infection (seroprevalence 14.2% and 68.6%, respectively, among those <15 years of age, and 24.2% and 72.8%, respectively, among those > or =15 years of age). Among adults, HHV-8 ser...
متن کاملHuman Herpesvirus 8 Seroprevalence, China
To summarize the seroprevalence of human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) in mainland China, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis based on available literature. Data show that differences in HHV-8 prevalence vary considerably among different ethnic groups and geographic regions. Blood-borne transmission could be a potential route for HHV-8 infection in China.
متن کاملSeroprevalence of human herpesvirus 8 infection in Northern Thailand.
BACKGROUND Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) is associated with Kaposi sarcoma (KS) in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and KS, classical KS, or endemic KS. Because human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections and HIV/AIDS are common in Thailand but KS is very rare (only 0.2% of reported patients with AIDS in Thailand had KS), we determined the HHV-8 seroprevalence among popul...
متن کاملSeroprevalence of Human Hydatidosis and Survey of Risk Factors in Rural Areas of Qaemshahr, Iran 2019
Background and purpose: Hydatidosis is one of the most prevalent zoonotic diseases around the world that is endemic in Iran too. In rural areas, there is a higher risk of infection. To the best of our knowledge, no study was done on seroprevalence of hydatidosis in Qaemshahr, north of Iran, so, we aimed to investigate this condition and its risk factors in patients attending Qaemshahr rural he...
متن کاملHuman herpesvirus 8 infection within families in rural Tanzania.
Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) infection is common in Africa. We examined the distribution of HHV-8 within families in rural Tanzania to determine routes of spread. HHV-8 infection was assessed by measuring antibody reactivity with a K8.1 (lytic-phase antigen) immunoassay. The prevalence increased from 3.7% (1/27) among infants to 58.1% (36/62) among children aged 3-4 years and 89.0% (65/73) among...
